My name is Harvey Sprinkle, and I am not a Geek. But, I have been managing Geeks in the wild for over 15 years. Through my extensive experience with and observation of Geeks in their native habitat (the cubicle or server room), I can translate and interpret most Geek actions and communications. It is my intention to help other Non-Geek Managers handle the difficult task of managing Geeks at the office.
I have managed all kinds of Geeks in all kinds of places. I’ve managed Call Centers, Server Teams, Production Support and Desktop Support. I have even managed a staff of Computer Programmers (called Developers) , which is the most difficult assignment that can be given to a Non-Geek. To be sure, I have seen every combination of Geek and Geek workplace. I can help you with your task to effectively manage Geeks.

Good stuff! Any advice for managing people who talk a lot about something called Linus, or Lunix, or something like that?

Tell them that when you move the office to his mother’s basement we will all play with his toys. Also, if you moved away from using Microsoft you would have to buy your own pens, that Microsoft Rep is loaded with them!
